An immersive medieval history experience exploring castles, knights and everyday life in the Middle Ages. Designed for primary schools and adaptable for museums, heritage venues, events and educational clubs, the workshop uses object handling, demonstrations and storytelling to bring medieval history vividly to life.
Life In A Castle
Explore the daily lives of the people who lived in medieval castles. What did they eat, wear, and do for work or entertainment? How did the roles of knights, servants, and nobles shape life within the castle walls? Through hands-on activities, storytelling, and interactive demonstrations, pupils experience castle life first-hand while developing an understanding of how it differed from life today.

Workshop Objectives
Use period specific vocabulary to talk about the past. Place the medieval period within a simple historical timeline. Investigate replica artefacts to understand how we learn about the past. Develop knowledge of everyday life in medieval Britain.

£350 – Full Day Medieval Workshop
A full-day, immersive medieval workshop delivered on site at your school. Suitable for one class of 30 pupils, or multiple classes throughout the day. Groups can rotate through sessions with teacher-led activities in between. All equipment and resources are provided. Flexible structure to fit your school timetable.

Jobs
Explore the variety of jobs and roles in medieval society. Using mystery boxes containing replica artefacts, they investigate and deduce what each person’s occupation might have been.

Medieval food
Discover what people ate in medieval times, from the staples of peasants’ diets to the feasts enjoyed by nobles. Using replica foods, sensory activities, and hands-on demonstrations, pupils explore ingredients, cooking methods, and dining customs.

Archery
Pupils head outside to witness a live longbow demonstration. Our expert archer shows the skill and technique involved, while telling the story of Robin Hood and the role of archery in medieval life.

Arming Of A Knight
Meet a medieval knight and learn what it really meant to hold this prestigious role. They have the opportunity to handle replica armour, try on chainmail, and explore swords and shields in a safe, supervised environment.

Fashion
Explore medieval clothing and social roles by handling and trying on authentic replica garments. From peasant tunics to noble robes, this hands-on activity highlights the contrasts between rich and poor, helping pupils understand status, daily life, and fashion in the Middle Ages.

Artefact Handling
Have the opportunity to investigate a wide range of replica objects, from swords, bows, and armour to bowls, candles, belts, shields, and medieval manuscripts. By examining these artefacts, pupils gain a tangible understanding of daily life in the Middle Ages, encouraging curiosity, observation, and discussion in a truly hands-on experience.

Entertainment
How did people in the Middle Ages spend their leisure time? We explore this topic by play traditional games such as the strategic “Three Men’s Morris,” learn about medieval music, and participate in a re-enactment of a medieval banquet, including dancing to the rhythm of the drum.

Coin Making
Children take part in a safe, supervised medieval coin-hammering activity. Each child gets to help strike their own replica coin and take it home as a keepsake. Hands-on, memorable, and perfect for linking to medieval trade and economy
